Thelma Sundby is one of three (Elisa Bakken and Live Tveit are the others) former high school students who are behind the article “We were shocked and shaken by how the Jews were mentioned” and the school assignment in Adresseavisen September 13th last year. In 2020 they had won 2nd place in the Holberg Prize for the task «Not only between the lines». Thelma and the other two were students in the 3rd grade at Elvebakken upper secondary school in Oslo.
The article was about what they have found after researching and finding anti-Semitic ideas in Adresseavisen and Aftenposten before World War II. The article then leds to a seminar in collaboration between the Jewish Museum Trondheim and the teacher education at NTNU. The 140 students learned about anti-Semitism in Norway, and even in various workshops had to prepare teaching on the topic to students in middle school and high school.
Thelma and the other two rivers were inspired to do research on the subject themselves and found out a lot they did not know anything about. Thelma is currently a student at the University of Oslo, where she is studying social anthropology.
